MP COMMITS TO CANCER FIGHT
Waveney MP, Bob Blizzard has given his backing to a campaign that calls for continued investment in research that is helping to beat breast cancer.
Mr. Blizzard has signed up to Breast Cancer Campaign’s Breast Cancer Research Election Pledge, which asks candidates standing at the next General Election to support charity-funded medical research through giving a commitment to maintain the Charity Research Support Fund. The Research Support Fund, which is funded by the Government, supports infrastructure costs of charity research such as University laboratory heating and lighting costs. This allows charities to focus their funds on the direct costs of research projects, including scientists and laboratory supplies.
Bob Blizzard said, “I am very pleased to pledge my support for Breast Cancer Campaign and its efforts to maintain funding for research costs. While breast cancer research has made considerable progress over the past two decades, resulting in improvements in quality of life and survival rates, breast cancer remains the UK’s most common cancer and the second biggest cause of death from cancer in women.”
“Charities like Breast Cancer Campaign providing innovative and world class research that is making a real difference to the lives of thousands of people and I hope as many of my colleagues as possible will join me in backing their efforts.”
